The Commission Code for Success
Your Strategy Is How You Get What You Want
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
Your calendar is full, your brain is loud, and your business still feels like it’s running you. We dig into the one question that cuts through the noise: how are you going to get what you want from your business? For us, “how” means strategy a clear, big-picture approach that becomes guardrails for every decision, every task, and every dollar. When the strategy is sharp, the path to higher net income and more time outside work stops being a mystery and starts becoming a plan.
We talk through what strategy looks like in real life: picking your ideal client, knowing how you’ll find and engage them, and getting specific about the problems your product or service solves. We also make the case for focus. Most small business owners and commission-based professionals can only execute one strategy well (maybe two with support). Try to run five strategies at once and you get the “diner menu” business plenty of options, not much mastery, and results that never quite add up.
Then we get practical with productivity and time management. A personal operating system is a weekly planning and daily planning system that tests every task against your strategy, helps you eliminate distractions (especially electronic ones), and keeps you working on what you control: you. We share why non-productive days often start with non-productive weeks, and how “plan your work and work your plan” turns into consistent action and calmer momentum.
If you want to build your own system, we also share details on a course with video lessons, workbooks, and checklists to help you implement it. Subscribe, share this with a business owner who needs focus, and leave a review so more people can find the Commission Code.

Welcome And Series Context
SPEAKER_00Welcome. We're glad you're here. This is the third episode about creating your personal operating system, and it revolves around answering the question: how are you going to get what you want from your business? Hope you've been with us and taking the opportunity to answer that what question. And last time when we talked about the answering the why question. And today we're going to get into how. How. You see, helping people increase revenue and have more time to enjoy it has become my passion in business. And increasing revenue, as I've said, it really means increasing your net income, right? Many of us don't think that we have time in our schedule to enjoy what we've what we've received, what we've gotten when we get what we want, because we've been spending all our time doing all the work. Well, the stress of today can just become uh, well, overwhelming, especially when it's attached to some anxiety about worry and concerns of, you know, what is the future going to hold? What changes? What's going to happen next? Well, we can overcome most of those problems with a personal operating system. I'm Morris Sims and I work with business owners, professionals, salespeople, and most anybody making a living on commissions or fees through many of the concepts that we're going to be talking about. You can apply those things to your business as an as a uh salesperson or running a business, or you could apply it to yourself, even if you're in a job getting a W-2, you got a boss and you've got work to do. If you consider that a business, then a personal operating system can help you achieve your objectives. So let's get into the system and help you increase your net income and gain control over your time. In episode number two, we talked about finding the answer to the question why? Why do you want whatever it is you said you wanted when we delved into the what question? That why has to come from inside, deep inside. It has to come from your heart as well as your head, and it must be wrapped in passion and fueled with emotion. Why? Well, it is the fuel that gets you up in the morning and gets you through all the challenges that we all have when we're trying to run a business. How is your strategy? How are you going to get what you want? The answer to that question is just that. It's your strategy. It's a big picture answer that provides the guidance and the guardrails to help you run your business. It is truly what you will need to do to get what you want. Some people might call it your business model, but not that detailed to this at this particular point.
From Why To How Strategy
SPEAKER_00How are you going to get what you want? Who is your ideal client? How will you engage your ideal client and find them to engage them in the first place? What are the problems they have that you and your product or service are going to help them solve? Those are the kind of questions you have to ask to build a strategy. Some businesses have more than one strategy. My florist has two strategies. One is to attract people to their shop and sell flowers over the counter and make friends. The second strategy is to build relationships with wedding venues and wedding caterers, as well as funeral homes, to be the florist of choice for their customers. One strategy is retail and the other is corporate. A company like General Electric has probably thousands, I don't know, but a lot of different kinds of strategies spread out across many different divisions and companies. From jet engines to light bulbs to finance. But here's the deal: you and I can only focus on one or two strategies unless there's a team of others working with us to help us focus on all those strategies. My expectation is that you may have a business that is only you
Pick Your Ideal Client
SPEAKER_00or you and a couple of team members to help you. And if that's the case and you're building a personal operating system, one strategy is about all you can focus on. All right, if you have experience in your business, you could maybe have two strategies like my florist. What you can do is try to focus on four or seven or eighteen strategies. It won't work because you can't do the deep work that's required to operate a business with that many strategies. It's like a New Jersey diner with a menu that looks like a copy of War and Peace. You want pot roast? We can do that. Fried chicken, we got it. Spaghetti and meatballs, best in town. Matzo ball soup? Yep, I'll put a pot on for you. You want it, we got it. Well, here's the problem with that. The chef is a master at Chinese food, but only has time to dabble in all those other types of cuisine. What does Gordon Ramsey do when he walks into a restaurant rescue and one of his rescue shows? He usually cuts the menu down to a manageable level of four or five entrees. The restaurant. The business has to focus. If you try to focus on three or five or more strategies, it just isn't possible to do it and do it well. To make a strategy work for you
Why One Strategy Beats Many
SPEAKER_00and for your business, you have to go deep and have a total grasp on the concepts and the skills necessary to make that strategy work. With more than one or two, you find that you can really only scratch the surface. And you never develop the skill and credibility required for success. So get that one or maybe two strategies up and running well and generating income. Get a team to work with you because your income, your revenue for your business is allowing you to do that. And then you can implement all those other strategies and stretch out to other things. Building a business requires focus. Focus is a key skill in building a business. But there's so many things to focus on, Maurice, my word. It's all coming from everywhere. Well, having a clear strategy allows you to know what to focus on. It allows you to make good decisions. If this activity or investment doesn't advance my strategy toward what I want, then it is not deserving of my time and my resources. And when I say resources, I'm talking about your money. Without a clear strategy, you might find yourself trying the next new best thing that comes to market. My strategy is selling vacuum cleaners, but man, I just saw this other guy. He was selling water softeners. I can do that too. Yeah, uh, no. Focus is the key. Knowing what to focus on is the skill behind the key. What should you focus on? Well, you should focus on implementing your strategy. Even then, you have to ask again, what should I focus on to
Using Strategy To Choose Focus
SPEAKER_00implement my strategy? And the answer is focus on the things you can control. And what you control is you. Now let's get practical for a minute, okay? How do you know what you need to do today to implement your strategy? Do you have a calendar you live by, or is it a to-do list on a legal pad? Is it just the next right most important and most urgent thing that you need to do that you've taken, you haven't really taken the time to think through what you need to do, so you're just gonna do the next thing that comes up. Well, the personal operating system is a way to take your what and your why and your how and transform them into a practical system so you'll know what the most important use of your time is. It's built on the foundation of the clarity principle, which is what we've been talking about, and that guides you to plan your work and work your plan. I like that line. Plan your work and work your plan. That's the only way that you're going to know what to focus on to be able to implement your strategy. It begins with eliminating distractions from your environment, both physical distractions
Weekly Planning And Daily Control
SPEAKER_00and in the world we live in today, electronic distractions. Boy, the number of emails I get every day. It's incredible. Personal operating system is a system for planning your week before the week starts. And using that weekly plan to create your daily plans for the week. A non-productive day usually begins with a non-productive week. And both of those usually result because there was no well-thought-out plan to begin with. Every activity and task on your weekly and daily plans, you've tested that against your strategy to make sure that you're spending your time focused on doing things that will advance your strategy so you can get what you want. It's a planning system that causes you to focus on things you control and not on things that require other people to do something in order to obtain them. Think about it. Would you rather spend time organizing the stock room or talking to a prospective client about solving their problems? You can choose to do either one. Sometimes the stock room might be hampering sales, so it becomes important, might even become urgent. But we all know that if you're talking to a prospective client, well, that's green time. It's important, and nothing else really matters. Wouldn't it be nice to think that all through with a simple system so that you know when you're following your daily plan, you're doing the most important and productive things you can do to implement your strategy and get what you want. When you do that, you're getting closer to increasing your net income and having more time to enjoy it. You build the foundation for your personal operating system. The next step is to build the walls and the roof and put the roof on it. And that's more than we can do in a series of emails or podcasts. I have a course that walks you through precisely what you need to do to eliminate distractions and focus on implementing your strategy. There are four video lessons with workbooks and checklists to help you build your personal operating system. A course like this normally has a tuition of about $250. My desire is to make this available to many people and have a greater impact on the lives of the people who choose to engage with it. And with that in mind, the tuition at this time is only $27. Click here down at the bottom of the podcast or the notes page to learn more about the course and gain access to what you'll need to implement your own personal operating system. There is one more podcast in the series here, and that's going to be to create your strategic action plan. Now that you've got a strategy
Course Offer And Next Steps
SPEAKER_00and you're pretty clear on that, in fact, you're very clear on that. Now you need to decide what exactly are you going to do in your business from a business standpoint, very practical. What are you going to do in order to implement that strategy? Then your personal operating system takes that and helps you figure out what you need to do to plan your work and work your plan. And that is where the rubber really meets the road and good things begin to happen. Thanks for engaging with me in this process. I look forward to seeing you personally in the open forums for students of the course. Yeah, we're going to get together as a group. Everybody that's in the course will have the opportunity to get together and we'll have a chance to chat as we go through the four lessons in there. Please join me. We'd love to have you here.
